Signal Hill and the KK Wetlands

Yesterday Steph and I climbed the hill across from our lodge. Here we saw a Bornean Black Striped squirrel leaping 'tween trees.

This is the Atkinson Clock Tower located on Signal Hill. In the background you can see our lodge, the Stay-In Lodge (the orange building, third from the left).

We saw this lizard hanging out on the base of the clock tower. Does anybody know what kind of lizard it is? (Chris?)

The first spider we have seen in Borneo. Steph was terrified as it weaved its way through her arm hairs. It's Latin name is Parum freckle aranea.

Me being cool while also sweating at the Signal Hill
Observatory.

On the other side of Signal Hill are the Kota Kinabalu Wetlands. Inside is a park with 1.5km of board walks through mangrove forest. It was formerly known as a bird sanctuary, but now there seems to be very few birds left in the park.

The second spider we saw. It was hanging from the boardwalk. Does anybody know what kind of spider this is? (David?)

  2. Interesting, the multi storey buildings. Had the idea it was way more third-worldish. Those mangroves...way cool trees!
